Item no.: 7
Object class: Requires containment; uncontainable
Special containment procedures: At earliest opportunity, install a soakaway beneath driveway and run a canal or culvert from the foot of the driveway to the soakaway. Alternatively, dig a hole in the driveway in a non-disruptive location, and run a canal or culvert from the foot of the driveway to the hole. As of documentation, the ground is frozen, therefore containment is impossible (see containment log), and the soil is also clay, meaning the soakaway must be much larger than usual, and contributing to the reason the object formed in the first place.
Description: The object is an above-ground sump formed by the meeting of the downward slope of a metalled street (in BC typical surfacing for 30km/h highways) and the downward slope of a gravel/topsoil driveway. In warm, wet or dry conditions, the sump is of little concern, creating a small puddle and forming an ideal place for moss to grow. In cold conditions, the sump can fill up with water, and then turn to ice, making passage a task best left unattempted.
Containment log:
[REDACTED] went out to the site at [REDACTED], Prince George, British Columbia, Canada with their shovel to execute the second version of the containment plan. They found that the ground was frozen solid, like rock. They then went and executed unrelated earthworks, washed the shovel, and went indoors to report failure to contain the object.
