i wonder if they say «mais ou manque» to mean «plus ou moins»

noting that words from Lat. magis do not have the «plus» meaning in our-universe french, but they do have the «plus» meaning in our-universe occitanoromance languages as well as francoprovençal

(the entire phrase under ponderance is an etymological calque of an occasional form of «més o menys» - «més o manco» - found in some forms of Catalan, using the apparently-an-italianism «manco» for more usual «menys» (cognate with French «moins»))
